Due to severe cuts in state funding and staff, the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, a non-profit, volunteer-based community organization, will now be taking over the daily operations of the Daniel Boone Homestead. For the time being, operational hours of the Daniel Boone Homestead have been temporarily reduced. The Friends hope to increase hours as soon as possible and they truly appreciate your patience and support during this challenging time. Many special events will still be continuing throughout the year. Please visit the Calendar of Events page for more information.

NEW! Historic Area Grounds Fee

Beginning July 1 the Daniel Boone Homestead will begin collecting a small fee from visitors who wish to see the historic area of the site through the self-guided tour. An admission of $3.00 per person will include admittance to see the exterior of the Boone House, the Smokehouse, the Blacksmith Shop, the Homestead Barn, the Bertolet House and the Bertolet Bake House. All of the above mentioned buildings are open for visitors to look into to see exhibited collections. The Boone House cellar is open for visitors to look inside to see the original foundation and spring cellar.

The interior of the Boone House is seen only through guided tours which typically last 30-45 minutes. The regular admission is $6.00 per adult; $5.50 reduced rate (seniors and other discounts); and $4.00 per youth. Purchase of these tickets includes the grounds fee.

Visitors may also purchase an annual pass by joining the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead. Friends’ membership entitles free, unlimited visitation including the grounds, guided tours and programs. Membership in the Friends is $20.00 per individual and $30.00 per family.

The $3.00 grounds fee for the historic area will be split with proceeds going to both the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and to the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead. Charging for exhibition areas at open-air museums such as the Daniel Boone Homestead is standard practice at most historic sites.

All areas of the Daniel Boone Homestead outside the historic area will continue to be available without charge. Visitors will continue to be admitted to the site Visitor Center, Sawmill area, DeTurk Cemetery, Lake Area, Picnic Areas, the bridle trail and most hiking trails free.

The Daniel Boone Homestead is a state historic site administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Edward G. Rendell, Governor. It is located about 50 miles west of Philadelphia, between Reading and Pottstown.
